MAHENDRANAGAR, Aug 5: Young Communist League (YCL) cadres denied entry to a truck carrying 170 quintals of rice to Nepal despite customs clearance from the Mahendranagar Customs Office, arguing that the rice was illegal.

The cadres of the Maoist youth wing has been exerting pressure on the office not to allow the rice imported by Mitthu Bhatiya of Kanchanpur from India. They have been keeping an eye on the rice for the last three days.

According to Bhatiya and the driver of the truck, the YCL cadres did not allow the truck to enter Nepal despite there documents proving the legality of the import. But YCL said the documents were insufficient to prove that the rice was imported legally.

“All the needed documents required for customs clearance were furnished to the office,” truck driver Chandra Kant Pandey said. The customs office´s chief Jagat Ram Chaudhary also said the documents were sufficient and genuine.
