Xolo announces foray into Nepal

KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): To further strengthen its international presence, Xolo has announced its foray into Nepal. Xolo Thursday launched five of its new smartphones in Kathmandu.



SN Rai, the co-founder and director of LAVA International, and Nirvana Chaudhary, managing director of Chaudhary Group, jointly launched Q600, Q1000, Q700, Q1000s and A500s. Commenting on the launch in Nepal, Sunil Rana, the business head of Xolo, said, “Our foray into Nepal is an important step toward establishing Xolo as a global smartphone player.”[break]





Bikram Pandey resigns from NPBC board



KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): Bikram Pandey has announced his resignation from the board of Nepal Purbadhar Bikas Company (NPBC). Clarifying his position, Pandey said the company´s chairman´s ignorance toward queries of members and alleged biased decisions made by him as his reasons for resigning. “I, time and again, raised many questions regarding the decisions made by the chairman and asked for other information regarding investment, the staff ranking and hiring systems. However, the side was always reluctant toward me,” Pandey said. Pandey further blamed chairman for the company having ‘unusual investment’ and accused him of hiring of an auditor without a decision from the board.



PR Group introduces Bigha women’s apparels



KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): PR Group, ahed of the upcoming Teej festival, has introduced a new India-based women’s apparel brand – Bigha – for the Nepali market. The collection includes verities of sarees, kurtha salwars and leggings, among others. According to a statement issued by the group on Thursdat, the new products will go on sale at the group´s showroom at Indra Chwok. Meanwhile, the company also said the new products will be available in Anusha Complex at Kuleshwar at wholesale rates.





CashOnAd to launch mobile ad platform in 18 countries



KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): Nepali company CashOnAd has introduced a new mobile advertising platform. According to the company, the service will be started simultaneously in 18 countries -- Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia, Brazil, Cambodia, the United States of America, Singapore and the United Arab Emirates -- within a month.



The company said on Thursday that more than a 10,000 peoples have already enrolled into platform in the last one month.

According to the company, the ´CashOnAd´ application is available for downloaded for android-based smartphones. Users then have to register themselves with the company to access the service.



Advertisements will appear on mobile phone screens following the registration but a user must watch the advertisement for at least six second to earn money, the company said.



The company said money earned through CashOnAd can be transferred to the user’s eSewa account in Nepal while for users outside Nepal, the company can transfer the money to their Paypal accounts.

“Users should not pay for the service but reduce telephone bills by 50 percent. The balance should be synced at least once in 24 hours,” said Sajat Shrestha, the chief executive officer (CEO) of the company.





Star CG now in market




KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): Colors Mobiles has expanded its series with the launch of Star CG under its Xfactor series in Nepal. According to the company the newly launched phone is the first ever android-based touch phone that supports Evolution Data Optimize (EVDO).



The phone which uses 3G broadband technologies for its internet connectivity, offers internet facility in CDMA networks with EVDO known as CDMA2000 1 X EVDO. The Star CG comes with dual-SIM capability supporting both GSM and CDMA services so that one can switch between two different networks, said the company´s press release. The 4-inch WVGA multi-touch phone runs on a 1 GHz processor and has an Android Jelly Bean 4.1.2 as its operating software along with 4 GB ROM and 512 MB RAM. “The phone incorporates a 2 MP rear camera and a 0.3 MP front camera and boasts a 1,500 mAh battery power,” the company said. The newly launched device is priced Rs 12,700.



BoK announces cash dividend


KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): Bank of Kathmandu (BoK) has announced cash dividends after the bank recorded a net profit of Rs 617 million during Fiscal Year 2012/13. A meeting of the bank’s board of directors held on September 4 has recommend a cash dividends amounting Rs 12 million and stock dividends (bonus share) amounting Rs 2.35 billion on Thursday, states the bank´s press release. According to the release, the bank´s total deposits reached Rs 27.70 billion, and loans and advances reached Rs 23.05 billion.



In comparison to the last fiscal year, total deposits, and loans & advances increased by 10.84 percent and 19.31 percent respectively, states the bank.
