World record-making 'skydive' from Kalapathar

KATHMANDU, Nov 18: Indian professional 'skydiver' Shital Mahajan has set a world record by diving from Kalapathar area of Mount Everest, the world's highest peak.

KATHMANDU, Nov 18: Indian professional 'skydiver' Shital Mahajan has set a world record by diving from Kalapathar area of Mount Everest, the world's highest peak.


Mahajan registered her name in the Guinness Book of World Records by setting a new record in skydiving on women's category. She dived from the height of 5,317 meters in Kalapathar.


Earlier, there was a women's world record of skydiving from the height of 5,342 meters in Kalapathar. Mahajan broke the record and set a new one.

Before this, two skydivers from New Zealand and the US set the record.


Mahajan, 41, is active in the skydive and sports sector in Pune of India. She has obtained India's prestigious Padma Shree Award.


Chairperson of Everest Skydive Company, Suman Pandey shared that Mahajan had made the record by diving four times from the Mount Everest area on November 11-13.


Mahajan's record has been registered in the Guinness Book of World Records. The testimonials establishing evidence of the world record were handed over amidst a programme held in Kathmandu.


Vice-Chairperson of Rastriya Swatantra Party and parliamentary Dol Prasad Aryal congratulated Mahajan for keeping the world record on the same occasion.


Skydiver Mahaan expressed happiness for materializing her long-cherished dream and pledged to engage her efforts for tourism promotion in Nepal.


Everest Skydiving has started in Nepal since 2008. The highest skydive took place in Kalapathar in 2009.
