Women journos emphasize need to build strong network to overcome challenges

Women journalists from Nepal and India have emphasized the need to build a strong network between Nepali and Indian women journalists in order to overcome similar challenges in their profession.

KATHMANDU, Oct 1: Women journalists from Nepal and India have emphasized the need to build a strong network between Nepali and Indian women journalists in order to overcome similar challenges in their profession. 


Amid a program titled “Initiatives of Media Women (IMW)” held at the Press Club of India on September 27 with the support of BP Koirala Foundation and the Embassy of Nepal in India, the chairperson of the Indian Women’s Press Corps (IWPC), Paru Sharma, expressed the view that women journalists from Nepal and India need to collaborate and build a network in order to overcome the common challenges.

General Secretary of the IMW, Kabita Adhikari, pointed out that even though democratic development has occurred in both countries, the condition of female journalists in Nepal and India remains the same. Political researcher Ved Prasad Sharma emphasized the need to create a network to facilitate joint discussions among female journalists from Nepal and India.


Similarly, the Nepali ambassador to India, Dr Surendra Thapa, charge d’ affaires, highlighted the need for active participation of women journalists in every sector. “The entire journalism fraternity has to play a crucial role in empowering women,” He said at the event, “The embassy has been working actively to encourage women’s participation and collaboration in all of its programs.”


Chairperson of the Press Club of India, Goutam Lahari, stated that programs such as the IMW are essential to strengthening the civic relationship between the two countries. He also mentioned that the club has always been committed to supporting the growth and development of women journalists.


In the interactive program, women journalists from both the countries shared their experiences and discussed the challenges they have encountered in their respective fields. Through the interaction program, which helped build a strong network between the women journalists of the two countries, the women journalists expressed their interest and willingness to collaborate in overcoming similar professional challenges to establish a new trend.
