Women abused for being 'witch' to get Rs 25,000 compensation

KATHMANDU, April 9: A women of Pyutar-7 of Lalitpur who was tortured and fed human feces after being alleged of being a witch will received Rs 25,000 in compensation, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal pledged on Thursday.



Dahal made such pledge to the Women, Children and Social Welfare Committee of the legislature, according to Maoist parliamentarian Binod Pahadi.



Dahal has also assured punishment to the perpetrator.



On March 20, Bimala Lama, principal of Gadibhanjyang Primary School, had fed Kalli Kumari, B K, 45, with feces accusing her of being a witch. Additionally, Lama, her younger sister and others had showered B K with punches and kicks.



Lama had resorted to such behavior after a local shaman had claimed that B K was a witch and was behind illnesses suffered by several people in the village.
