NEPALGUNJ, Feb 1: Anisha Khatik, 23 of Nepalgunj, who was burned alive by her husband Rajendra Khatik, 26, at their home has died during her treatment at the TU Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu on Tuesday. Her drunken husband had set her alight by dousing her in kerosene over a small dispute around two weeks ago.


She was initially admitted to Bheri Zonal Hospital but was later brought to the capital for treatment with the help of various organizations. She had sustained 50 percent burns. 


According to the hospital, she died at around 11 pm Tuesday. Banke district police has informed that the body of the deceased will be sent for post mortem and then taken to Nepalgunj for cremation.

Anisha and Rajendra who tied the knot some four years ago, and have a two years old daughter. Rajendra was living with his wife and daughter by separating with his parents since three years. There was no one to look after Anisha as her parents live in India.


Rajendra who had absconded after the incident was nabbed by police on Wednesday morning. Tek Prasad Rai, the chief of Banke district police, informed that he was arrested from Nepal-India border in Banke. “He will be charged for murder,” said Rai.


According to police, the convict had fled to India after the incident. Anisha had clearly told the police that she was burned alive by Rajendra. Police informed that they have Anisha's video record to substantiate the charge.
