GORKHA, March 8: Earthquake victims in Gorkha district are being troubled by high winds and lack of proper shelter. Strong winds on Saturday and Sunday evening blew away the roofs of the district's earthquake victims, adding to their plight.

Many victims who had been living under tarpaulins and tents lost their shelters in the winds. "We had to stay awake throughout the night after the winds blew away our tents," said Salina Gurung, a local of Swara VDC.The storm also blew away the roof of a school that was being used as shelter for earthquake victims. Kanya Devi Lower Secondary School of Barpak lost its roof in the winds, informed Bikash Shrestha, the school teacher.

"Students are forced to study in an open ground again after the storms blew away the school building's roofs," he added.

The government has not started reconstruction program although it has already been 11 months since the catastrophic earthquake of April 25. Quake victims complained that they would face various difficulties during storms and upcoming monsoon if they fail to reconstruct their house soon.
