KATHMANDU, June 19: Former Indian Ambassador for Nepal Ranjit Rae has stated that excessive corruption in Nepal has caused frustration and anger among the youth.
In an interview with an Indian channel, former Ambassador Rae expressed that the rising corruption in Nepal has increased anger among the young people.
“There is widespread corruption in Nepal which has caused frustration and anger among the youth”, he said. He also mentioned that pro-monarchy parties have been trying to capitalize on this frustration.
Nepal and India should discuss all contentious issues including...

“People from pro-monarchy parties are attracting the younger generation by saying, ‘At least during our time, corruption was not this rampant,’” he said, “The people, who are searching for something new, can be swayed in any direction right now.”
He said that due to the lack of employment and development in Nepal, one-third of the population has migrated abroad. “Probably around ten million people have gone abroad in search of work,” he stated, “And even those who remain back are frustrated.”
He also explained that because no party has been able to form a majority government in Nepal, it becomes necessary to make coalitions which affects the work procedure. “We have seen instances where parties with only two members of parliament are given the position of Deputy Prime Minister to bring them into the government,” he said, “And in such situations, the government cannot effectively control many things, even if it wants to.”
Former Ambassador Rae explained that in Nepal, political arrangements are made based not on principles but on necessity. “The current political equation in Nepal is surprising in itself,” he said.
