“White lies are granted. Lying doesn’t bother me. I am not a white liar but I tell people what they want to hear,” Rupak Raj Sunuwar Thuguch shared on our Facebook page.[break]
Unlike sarcasm, white lies are usually well intentioned. Many will argue that lying is never a good thing no matter what the situation maybe but if being honest messes’ things up then white lie is a reliable resort.
“A lie is a lie no matter what,” says 19-year-old Nripendra Jung Basnet. “Everybody lies and calling it a white lie is only a mean to cover it up, for personal satisfaction if you may,” adds Basnet who is currently a student at Kathmandu School of Law.

You lie to a friend who keeps complaining about how fat she’s become just so she stops talking about her weight or to make her feel better. You bail on a meeting you weren’t keen of and suddenly your schedule is tight at least for the other person. You tell this friend she looks great in that linen outfit to get over with the hassle of shopping. These are some of our day-to-day white lies. But white lies are not a viable option during certain circumstances and speaking the truth is the only way out.
“Personally I find white lies offensive. I know people say things to be polite and diplomatic but I am kind of a straight forward person. I do lie in nominal cases but only if it is inevitable,” shared Sonu Kumar Saraf.
“Why be such a diplomat when you know that it’s not going to change anything? Commoners are the victims of white lies on a large scale; politicians use it all the time to rescue themselves ,” he further explained.
White lies should not be taken too far because it takes lies to cover up lies. It is safe to lie when you have to but a subtle hint of truth is safest still.
Mr Prime Minister, lies have consequences
