Fun Park in Pokhara

Hotels in Pokhara are flooded with tourists during many months every year as the scenic valley which is surrounded by mountains is a favorite holiday destination. Even during this time of the year, Pokhara’s hotels are teeming with tourists.

Tourists who visit Pokhara entertain themselves in many ways. Some opt to paraglide while some get closer views of the mountains on ultra-light flights. While adults have many facilities, children don’t have all that much to enjoy, which leaves them stuck in their rooms with nothing better to do than watch TV all day long. [break]

Even the fancier hotels don’t have any special provisions for kids. Some hotels do have a kids’ pool next to a bigger swimming pool but that’s about it. And since these pools are small and located within the confines of a hotel, there’s not much in the surroundings for children to enjoy.

Keeping all these facts in mind, a fun park has been built at Dhari Patan in Pokhara. The park allows kids not only to roam around freely but also play to their hearts’ content. According to Dinesh Prasai, the coordinator of the fun park, the place provides kids with different facilities and treats.

“A lot of money has been invested in the tourism sector but nothing’s been done targeting kids,” says Prasai, adding that the park was established to fill the void in entertainment facilities for kids.

The park which was established a year and a half ago has been catering to kids and their parents alike, and about 75,000 people have visited it so far. The park, which caters mostly to children below the age of 12 years, sees huge crowds during holidays. In recent times, the park is frequented by tourists’ kids as well.

The entrance fee is Rs 30 for the entire day but the prices of rides and games vary. The opening hours are from 11 AM till late in the evening. The park is also an ideal place to hold birthday parties.

The fun park which sprawls over 18 ropanis has 15 entertainment zones, including a huge swimming pool, train ride, mini cars, video games, flying chairs, and massage chairs. The swimming pool is not very deep and hence parents don’t have to worry about guarding their children. According to Prasai, the reflection of Mount Machhapuchhre can be seen on the swimming pool which makes it all the more alluring.

Even the restaurant inside the fun park has a menu designed especially, keeping kids in mind. There’s also a beautifully manicured garden in the park. To minimize accidents, safety and security aspects have been given paramount importance.

“Earlier, there was a dearth of entertainment facilities for kids but now the park has come to their rescue,” says Prasai.

According to Prasai, since many parents give priority to their kids’ entertainment more than their own, the idea to open a fun park was conceived. He adds that the fun park is an ideal place for kids and parents alike.

“Kids want to have fun during their holidays but have to be cooped up at home with no place to go to,” says Prasai, adding that the fun park has taken care of that problem.

Many parents agree with Prasai and express their happiness over the fact that finally there’s something which allows their kids to enjoy themselves.

Devi Chhetri, a parent, says, “My daughter used to insist that I take her out during holidays but I had nowhere to take her. Now I can take her to the fun park.”

The fun park which was targeted at kids is now being upgraded with the installation of facilities for youths and adults. A resort with 15 rooms and top-notch facilities next to the fun park is also in the pipeline and it will be up and running in a week’s time.

The resort coupled with the fun park aims to make holidaying in Pokhara a family affair.

“Many parents also want a place where they can enjoy themselves while their kids are having fun nearby. The resort will be perfect for such families,” says Prasai.

Couples without kids can also stay at the resort, and the packages start from Rs 4,500 per night while a couple with two kids has to pay Rs 6,500 per night. There is also a separate package that includes food and transportation and that costs Rs 10,000.
