KATHMANDU, Nov 15: Today, Bhai Tika, the main day of the second main festival in Nepal, Tihar, is being celebrated.

On the fifth day of Tihar, also known as Yamapanchak, Bhai Tika is observed by sisters and brothers. Sisters express their wishes for their brothers' long life, health, and wealth with devotion, faith, and loyalty, following the tradition of wearing Pancharangi or Saptarangi tika.

Prof. Dr. Devmani Bhattarai, a theologian and a member of the National Calendar Determination Committee, has stated that this year, sisters placing tika on their brothers should face west, while brothers should face east.

According to Bhattarai, when this ritual is performed, the North Moon in Scorpio will fall to the right. As a theologian, he explains that sisters, being the ones bestowing blessings upon their brothers, should face in this specific direction. There is a classical rule dictating that the moon should be positioned before or on the right side for auspicious deeds.
