Growing up among rhododendrons and birds, my love for forests blossomed: Nanda Devi Kunwar
‘Nagarik Nayak' Nanda Devi Kunwar expressed her happiness upon being honored for her conservation efforts. "When I worked for forest conservation, it was purely out of love for the forests," she said. "In the process, I almost lost my life and ended up living with a disability. Now, being recognized by the honorable President brings me immense joy."
Speaking with journalist Bal Krishna Adhikari, Kunwar shared that growing up near the jungle had inspired her conservation efforts. "I grew up in the forest," she said. "My parents' house was close to the jungle. I have childhood memories of playing among the rhododendrons and birds. Even when you cut tree branches, the rhododendron doesn’t bloom — that's why I feel such a deep attachment to forests and trees."
Receiving the honor from President Paudel, she added, has further motivated her to continue her conservation work.
Nagarik Heroes of the Year 2074 honored

Proud I became a teacher by 'mistake' and not an engineer: Ghanshyam Pathak
Another 'Nagarik Nayak,' Ghanshyam Pathak, shared his experiences and reflections after being honored.
In a conversation with the Editor-in-chief of Nagarik Daily, Pathak mentioned that all 150 classrooms at his school are fully occupied. "We only accept new admissions for grades 4, 5, and 6. In the higher grades, only students who began with us continue," he said.
Pathak revealed that although he had passed the entrance exam for engineering studies at Pulchowk Engineering Campus, he could not pursue it due to financial difficulties. "But today, I feel proud that I didn't mistakenly become an engineer. I am proud to be a teacher," he said.
While seeking scholarship opportunities, Pathak found one in education. As he studied, he focused on how to practically apply theoretical knowledge in the classroom — a focus he credits for his current success. "I also encourage the most talented students I have taught to join our school, and that has yielded excellent results," added Nagarik Nayak Pathak.

Mahato also shared her dream: to be ranked number one in the International Cricket Council (ICC) rankings. "It’s a dream not just for Nepal but for myself too — to become the number one all-rounder in the ICC rankings," she said.
