Western region come first in athletics

KATHMANDU, July 14: Western Development Region secured first place with 78 points in athletics in National Level School Sports held at National Sports Council, Dasharath Stadium. [break]



Similarly, Mid Western, Central, Far Western and Eastern regions bagged the second to fifth positions with 53, 42, 15 and 7 points, respectively.



In women´s 3000 m race, Saraswati Bhattarai of Far western region came first with the timing 11.48.74 mins. Sunmaya Danuwar and Samjhana Kafle of Mid Western region came second and third.



In women´s long jump, Krishna Chaudhary of Mid western region bagged the first position with 4.55 m jump. Jamuna Kunwar and Samjhana Chaudhary of Western region finished second and third respectively. In men´s category Rabin Chaudhary of Mid western region came first with 6.15 m jump while Tilakram Mahato and Arbin Chaudhary of Western came second and third.



In women´s 200m race, Sipora Gurung of Western region won gold by completing the race in 29.17secs. Puja Thapa of Central region and Maya Bharikarate of Far Western region won silver and bronze respectively. In men´s race, Tilakram Mahato of Western region came first. He covered the distance in 22.85 secs. Rabin Chaudhary of Central region and Kiran Rana of Western region came second and third.



In women´s 4X100 m relay, Mid Western region won the gold with 57.14 sec timing while Western region and central region won silver and bronze respectively. In men´s category, Western region came first with 47.21 secs while Central and Eastern finished second and third. The winners and runner ups were awarded with the certificates and medals.



Women´s Volleyball



Western Developmental Region won the first place in women´s volleyball with eight points from four games. They defeated the runners up, Central Development Region, in straight sets 25-14, 25-9.



Midwestern region secured third place with a 25-20, 26-24 win over Eastern region. Eastern region secured the fourth place.



Ramita Tandukar of Mid western region was declared the best player of the tournament.
