KATHMANDU, Sept 20: Central Region has become the champion of 1st Youth and Junior National Athletics Championship on Tuesday. Central bagged eleven gold medals, five silvers and six bronzes to finish first in the championship held at the Dasharath Stadium, Kathmandu.
Western Region claimed second position in the championship with six golds, seven silvers and seven bronzes in the championship organized by Nepal Athletics Association. Similarly, Mid-Western settled for the third position with six golds, seven silvers and two bronzes.
In the last day of the championship, Sunita Shrestha claimed first position in the girls' 800 meters race of the youth section clocking two minutes and forty three seconds.
Similarly, in the boys' long jump, Bikash Kumar Shah of the Western Region claimed first position while Bipana Pariyar of the same team won the girls' long jump.
Rohit Adhikari of Western Region finished the 800 meters race in first position clocking two minutes and four seconds in the boys' section.
In the 4×100 meters boys' relay in the youth category, Central Region, Western Region and Eastern Region grabbed first, second and third positions respectively. Likewise, Western claimed first position in the girls' relay while Mid-Western and Eastern claimed second and third positions.

In the junior section, Birendra Chaudhary of Central Region won gold in boys' javelin throw while Khageshwari Thagunna of Far-western claimed gold in the girls' category.
Rajiv Bikram Shah, president of Nepal Athletics Association and athletics' head coach Amiri Prasad Yadav distributed prizes to the winners. Altogether 75 players from five development regions had participated in 26 events during the two-day event.
