KATHMANDU, Oct 8: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) has forecasted more than average rainfall across five provinces for the period from October 1 to December 31, 2024. 


According to a forecast released on Monday by the DHM, the south-eastern region of Koshi Province; Madhesh, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces; and the eastern part of Lumbini Province are likely to receive above-average rainfall. 


There are chances of less rainfall in the central and northern parts of Karnali province and northern part of Sudurpaschim province and an average rainfall in the rest of the country.

Information Officer and Meteorologist at the DHM, Bibhuti Pokharel, said that both the maximum temperature and minimum temperature are likely to remain above the average in most parts of the country in the three months. She added rainfall is likely to occur in the south-eastern parts of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces. 


The northern part of Koshi province, western part of Madhesh province and eastern and southern parts of Bagmati province have the likeliness of 45 percent to 55 percent to receive rainfall during the upcoming three months. The southern part of Koshi province, western part of Madhesh province, north-western part of Bagmati province and south-eastern part of Gandaki province 35 percent to 45 percent likely to receive rainfall. 


Similarly, there is a possibility of 35 to 45 percent that rainfall will occur in the central and northern parts of Karnali province and northern parts of Sudurpaschim province as well the rest of the country. 


The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be higher than the average in most places of the country. The maximum temperature has a 55 percent chance of crossing the average temperature in the central and southern parts of Bagmati province, western part of Madhesh province, central and western parts of Gandaki province, central and eastern parts of Lumbini province and eastern and northern parts of Karnali province. 


According to the forecast, there is a 35 to 45 percent chance of more than average maximum temperature in the central part of Koshi province, eastern part of Madhesh province and northern part of Bagmati province, while the probability of maximum temperature increasing is as high as 45 percent in the rest of the country.
