KATHMANDU, June 27: Finance Minister Barsha Man Pun said Wednesday the government was preparing for a full-fledged budget for the upcoming fiscal year, claiming that he has received go-ahead from leaders of major political parties.

“Top leaders, especially chairman of all major political parties, have suggested us to prepare full-fledged budget,” Pun told an interaction program in Kathmandu on Wednesday. “The budget, which will be brought through ordinance, will incorporate programs suggested by all the political parties.[break]

He also disclosed that top leaders have assured him that they would reach national consensus by mid-July.

Former finance minister Surendra Pandey, however, said it would be difficult to forge consensus on budget. “The government should leave no stone unturned to forge consensus for the budget,” he added.

Representatives of the private sector, meanwhile, urged the government to unveil a full-fledged budget to keep the economy functioning.

“We request all the political parties to reach an agreement on budget at the earliest,” Pradeep Jung Pandey, senior vice president of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) said.
