“(Nepali) Congress does not look back when it has to face up to responsibilities,” Koirala told reporters at the Biratnagar airport this morning. “We took the risk for the sake of new elections.” [break]
“Our priority was elections and removal of the Baburam Bhattarai government,” Koirala said, “We decided on the chief justice (as the candidate to head the poll government) after we reached a situation in which one party was not ready to accept the leadership of another party.”
The NC president claimed that the country would not have to witness a despotic rule, as has been publicly rumored, under the new executive head. He argued that the chief justice is someone who respects for the rule of law. "There would have actually been tyranny if the Maoists had continued to remain in power,” he added.
Koirala was in Biratnagar on his way to Sunsari where he is scheduled to inaugurate the seventh general convention of the transport workers association on Friday.
