Meanwhile, continuous rainfall has led to a record flow of water in the Narayani river this year.
Floods in the Narayani river has led to a water flow at around 250,000 cusec per second, according to Prem Chandra Gupta, the Secretary of Gandak Struggle Committee, Nawalparasi.
As a result of the rising level of water current in the river, locals in Susta and Paklihawa remain at a risk of being inundated by the river.
The river has already washed away many areas of arable land and there is a risk of 16 villages being inundated, locals have said.
The villages at risk include among others Paklihawa, Thulokhairatawa, Narsahi, Guthiprasauni, Bhjahawa, Pratappur, Kudiya and Rupauliya.
Highways disrupted
Earlier in the day, locals disrupted the East-West Highway, accusing the local body of not having done enough to contain the flood. Transport services however have resumed after police intervened in the protests.
As many as six persons were injured in the scuffle between the police and the locals. Of the injured, Sankit Rauniya and Lathar Miya have been taken to Biratnagar for treatment, while the other four are receiving treatment at local health facilities.
Heavy floods in the Khahare river at Anbukhaireni-4 of Tanahu district has obstructed traffic on the Dumre-Muglin stretch of the Prithivi Highway.
A large number of passengers have been stranded after traffic on the section of the highway was obstructed since 7:00 Fri morning.

Likewise, traffic movement has come to a halt since 5:30 am in Chitwan, after a mudslide along with boulders fell on the road at Simaldhara in Darechowk-4 of the district. A bulldozer from Muglin has been clearing the debris.
In Arghakhanchi, The Gorusinghe-Sandhikharka road has been obstructed as a result of the continuous rainfall since the past four days.
Water logging on the road and landslides at Jagat has obstructed traffic on the road, police said.
The latest obstruction in the Gorusinghe-Sandhikharka road had made Arghakhanchi almost traffic-less, with more than three dozen other roads already obstructed since the past two days.
Efforts to open the road for traffic have failed due to the unavailability of a dozer, the District Police Office said.
Likewise, the Maldhunga-Bedi road has also been obstructed at several places as a result of landslides since Thursday night.
A landslide trigged by continuous downpour has obstructed traffic in Keraghari and Majhaphant-2 of the road, police said.
Security personnel along with a dozer have been sent for the affected areas, Police Inspector of Parbat Gyan Bahadur Sethi said.
