A division bench of Chief Justice Ram Prasad Shrestha and Khil Raj Regmi on Wednesday slapped 18-month jail term and a fine of Rs 20.3 million on Wagle for corruption.[break]
On late afternoon Thursday, the SC sent full text of the verdict and a separate letter asking KDC to implement it.
Immediately after receiving the full text and the letter, the KDC asked the police to arrest Wagle. The plainclothesmen, who had kept Wagle´s residence at Kalopul under surveillance from early Thursday, produced the arrest warrant and asked him to be ready to be taken to jail. Wagle didn´t object to the request. His family members, however, tried to create a scene. Wagle sought few minutes to change his dress and then dutifully went inside the police van.
Following the arrest, Wagle was taken to KDC. When he was presented before the officials, Wagle had asked them as to why he was brought there? “Sir, you have to serve jail term as slapped by the SC,” an official informed him. "You can even send me to hell,” Wagle had replied.
When officials said he would be sent to central jail Wagle had pleaded that he be sent to Dillibazar jail. He even made a call to his wife and asked her not to prepare food for him.
Taking to mediapersons before being taken to jail, Wagle said, "The SC verdict was unjust. I have been wrongly accused of illegally amassing money which actually my son and daughter-in-law earned. SC did injustice to me."
Wagle further said that the state also did him injustice. "Thousands of innocent people have been made to suffer for no reasons. I am also ready to face it," he added.
