KATHMANDU, Jan 26: CPN (Maoist Center) central leader Balkrishna Dhungel, who has been serving a jail term in the Dillibazaar prison, has accused the Supreme Court of being influenced by the media and human rights activists while imposing life term on him.

Submitting a written reply in response to a contempt of court case filed against him by advocate Dinesh Tripathi, Dhungel accused the media and the human rights activists of being biased against him.

He also accused human rights activists of staging ‘artificial drama’ on the streets and the media of practicing yellow journalism in order to influence the court in his case. Dhungel also claimed that he was not at the crime scene when the crime happened.

“I need not respect such a court and judges who have convicted an innocent person like me,” he has said in the written response.

Dhungel has been serving jail sentence in Dillibazaar prison for killing Ujjan Kumar Shrestha of Tarkerabari, Okhaldhunga as per a decision of the Supreme Court (SC) on January 03, 2010.

Dhungel, who was at large after the SC order, was recently arrested and jailed after a contempt of court case was lodged against the Inspector General of Nepal Police Prakash Aryal and Dhungel.

Claiming that he did not kill Ujjan Kumar Shrestha, nor did the police recover the dead boy, Dhungel said that the apex court decision to jail him was wrong and against a number of precedents. Dhungel said that there is no ground to punish him on the contempt  of court charge.
