Waderio team leaves for SA Karate today

KATHMANDU: Nepal´s waderio karate team is leaving for Gujrat, India on Friday to compete in the Third South Asian Karate Championship to be held there on Tuesday and Wednesday.



The event will be participated by 10 Nepali karateka in kumite and single kata. Santosh Majhi, Ajay Bhakta Shreshta, Manish Tamang, Manoj Rajbanshi, Kailash Banset, Keshar Subba, Laxman Tamang, Tej Bahadur Tamang, Jeevan Pulami and Man Bahadur Lama are the players. Harisharan KC, the general secretary of Nepal Karate Federation and the chief coach of Nepal Waderio Karate Association is the leader of the Nepali team. [break]



Nepal had also competed in the last two editions of the tournament held in India. Nepal had secured team championship title on both the occasions with six gold medals in the first edition and nine gold medals in the second edition. National Sports Council Member Secretary Yubaraj Lama bade farewell to the team on Thursday.



21 teams in TAAN Eco-Challenge



KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): The first edition of TAAN International Eco-Challenge 2013 to be held on Saturday will see participation of 21 teams in total, the organizer Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAAN) confirmed on Thursday.



The Eco-Challenge is a team event comprising three sporting events -- running cycling and rafting. Each team has five participants including a team manager who will not participate in the sporting events. All four participants will first run on the 6.5-kilometer track from Tokha to Pani Muhan and cycle on the 14.5-kilometer track in the Shivapuri-Nagarjun National Park.



After completing cycling at Sundarijal, the participants will raft on 7.5-kilometer segment of Bagmati River until Gokarna - the finishing point of the event. But teams can start rafting only after all members of the group complete cycling. The top three teams will receive pure of Rs 100,000, Rs 75,000 and Rs 50,000 along with trophies, medals and certificates.



Gyanodaya Residential qualifies as winner



KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): Gyanodaya International Residential School on Tuesday qualified for the final rounds of Coca-Cola Cup Inter-school Football Tournament as the winner of group C in boy´s section from Kathmandu. Gyanodaya edged past Apple Academy 4-3 in a tiebreaker following 1-1 draw in the regulation time.



Gyanodaya came from behind in the 58th minute to cancel Sumit Uprety´s lead for Apple taken in the 10th minute. Apple also qualified as the group runner up. Similary, Bal Srijanalaya and Kathmandu Valley Higher Secondary School also secured place in the final as the winner and runner up of group D respectively. In the final, Bal Srijanalaya edged past Kathmandu Valley 2-1.



Avinash Gurung and Manjit Lama were on target for Bal Srijanalaya while Tshering Wangchuk pulled one back for Kathmandu Valley. Siddhartha Vanasthali and Creative Learners´ Academy from Group A, Sainik Awasiya Mahavidyalaya (Bhaktapur) and Gandhi Adarsha from Group B have already quailfied for the finals.
