Issuing a statement on Monday, VP Jha urged the major political parties to amend the new constitution to address the demands of the agitating forces even if by using the Article on removing constitutional difficulties."The major political parties that addressed the desire of the people in the farwestern region immediately and delineated seven provinces despite their earlier stance for six provinces, ignored the genuine demands of people in Tarai-Madhes. This has revealed the discriminatory nature of the state," stated Jha in his press release.
"In this regard, the government and ruling parties should address it through fruitful and meaningful talks with the agitating sides," he added.
He lamented that the previous agreements reached with marginalized communities are ignored in the name of majority.
"Promulgating constitution from the Constituent Assembly is obviously a pleasant thing. However, ignoring the previous agreements reached with marginalized communities and amendments made in the Interim Constitution based on the agreements is not at all good and pleasant," stated VP.
Mentioning that more than 40 protesters and security personnel died during the 45-days long protests in Tarai-Madhes, the VP said that it is unfortunate that government has not taken appropriate steps and both the sides have started any formal dialogue for addressing the protest.
He urged the major parties and the government to show political willingness to address the demands of Tarai-Madhes. He also appealed the agitating side to come to talks to settle the issues.
