POKHARA, May 15: Although most of the places in Kaski district reported holding the local elections successfully, many voters were not happy with the voting system in place.
Voters complained about the ballot papers of being large and confusing. This made the voting process a bit complicated for voters of Kaski district.
Even voters having prior experience took as long as seven minutes due to the complications involved, according to duty officers. Likewise, voters from rural areas took more time, they informed. Elderly and illiterate voters faced more difficulties compared to others.
“Some of the elderly voters took up to seven minutes to cast their votes. They took longer time than expected because this system requires casting votes for many candidates. And we cannot tell them to hurry up,” said returning officer Rajesh Regmi.
According to him, youths and literate people took up to two minutes to cast their votes. “Voters also got confused to fold their ballot papers and then drop it into the ballot box,” he added.
