The deceased has been identified as Mansur Singh, 60, of Shamkot in Dhime VDC. According to Lokendra Raj Thapa, a local villager, Mansur who was down with the fever for the last three days and died due to lack of treatment.[break]
“More people have fallen ill in the villages due to the disease,” said Mansur.
Most of the schools in the eastern and northern part of Jajarkot remain closed as many teachers and students have fallen ill.
While the outbreak continues, there are no doctors available at the district hospital. According to locals, the chief of Jajarkot District Hospital Dr Bivek Kumar Lal has left for Nepalgunj for a week to attend a meeting. Badri Panta, a local villager said the health posts are being run by office helps while the district hospital is without doctors.
As if the lack of doctors was not bad enough, there is no essential medicines at the health posts and hospitals. There is serious shortage of essential medicines including Metron, Nizoral, Paracetamol, Cotrin and Zinc among others.
Dr Bibek Kumar Lal, who is in Nepalgunj, said that all the medicines meant for Jajarkot remain stuck in Bara district.
Meanwhile, Panta informed that the viral fever outbreak has seriously affected Khagenkot, Dada Gau, Roka Dada, Rami Dada, Dhime, and Khalanga villages.
