Those who gathered around Nisha to console her also could not hold their tears. They also wept along with Nisha.
Neighbors of Nisha had to get her daughter Bunu admitted in the hospital as she collapsed after learning about the demise of her brother. As she regained consciousness for a while, she kept on asking for her brother. With the death of Sudip, the entire village of Manahari in Makawanpur has been enveloped in gloom.
"No one has lit up their hearths in our village," Ram Chandra Subedi, who came to Bharatpur all the way from Manahari to console Sudip´s bereaved family, said. "Here, unlike in cities, all feel hurt if someone is wounded."
Hundreds of Manahari villagers thronged the hospital premises to express their condolences to the bereaved family. While some villagers appeared dejected, some were fuming at the death of their village boy.
"We were strolling in Manahari bazaar as it was open," Chhetra Bahadur Moktan, who was with Sudip when YCL cadres attacked them, said. "While returning home, some YCL cadres stopped our motorbike and pelted stones at us, blaming us for defying their strike."
According to Moktan, while Sudip was killed, other two youths Nabir and Gagan were also injured. Moktan said that they did not retaliate against YCL cadres despite being affiliated to Youth Force (YF), the youth wing of the CPN-UML.
In the meantime, the family of Sudip has demanded that YCL cadres involved in the attack be brought to justice and the family be compensated. Police have arrested four persons including Bijay Shrestha of Lothar in connection with Sudip´s killing.
