Victory Day and Home-coming Day at B'desh Embassy

KATHMANDU, Jan 11: Bangladesh embassy in Nepal on Wednesday celebrated the 40th Anniversary of the Great Victory Day of Bangladesh and Home-coming Day of Bangabandhu with due solemnity in Kathmandu.



According to a press statement issued by the Embassy of Bangladesh in Kathmandu, the celebration consisted of the observance of one minute silence and a prayer for departed souls of the martyrs; discussions on the contribution of the Father of the Nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to create independent Bangladesh; and cultural program, among other things.



During the cultural program, some prominent artists of Nepal as well as Bangladeshi expatriates performed songs and dance and recited poems.



Nepal´s role in the independence of Bangladesh was lauded in the discussion program as it was among the first few (8th) countries of the world to recognize Bangladesh on 16 January 1972.



Various political party and civil society leaders as well as others from Nepal and Bangladeshi expat community participated in the function.
