KATHMANDU, Jan 2: Veteran journalist and former Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) Acting General Manager and Editor Gokul Prasad Pokharel has passed away. He was 87.
Pokharel was suffering from respiratory related ailments for long, and passed away at 10:30 am on Monday at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) in Kathmandu, senior journalist Kapil Kafle confirmed.

The founding General Secretary of Nepal Press Institute (NPI), Pokharel had served as the organization's President for two tenures. He also served as Member of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).
RSS former Editor Pokhrel was awarded the 'RSS former employee honour' provided by the FNJ RSS chapter in 2018. Pokharel also served as Chief Editor of Gorkhapatra national daily and Associate Editor of The Rising Nepal.
Pokharel leaves behind his spouse, two daughters and a son.
The final rites of Pokharel are to be performed on Tuesday, Kafle said.
