BIRGUNJ, March 15: Vehicular movement resumed here in the region following the agreement between the government and the Tharu groups in the capital Saturday night, recognizing Tharus and other indigenous ethnic communities in the "Tarai" as distinct groups.

Common people and particularly the passengers stranded at various places due to transportation strike in the Tarai region for the last 13 days were happy with the resumption of transport services.

The protestors, who had blocked the vehicular movement by setting up tent camps along the highways and staying there, left the roads immediately after they received instructions from their central leadership.

Many of the stranded vehicles left for their destinations Saturday night itself while other vehicles left the places only on Sunday morning after confirming the situation. Most of the obstructions along the East-West Highway have been cleared and the Tribhuwan Highway too is clear for the movement.

The factories, offices, educational institutions and other businesses that remained closed during the strike are set to resume their operations on Sunday and people in general could be seen relieved.
