KATHMANDU, May 3: Private Schools in Kathmandu Valley closed early on Sunday due to rumors of curfew in the capital following the dismissal of Army Chief Rookmangud Katawal.

Bhoj Bahadur Shah, President of Private and Boarding Schools Organization Nepal (PABSON), said most schools in Valley announced closure early as hordes of parents came to pick up their children after 2 pm.

Shah said most parents coming to take children were apprehensive of possible violence during the Maoist victory rally over dismissal of army chief Katawal and possible curfew orders. “Schools decided to close early as parents chose to take their children home,” he said.

The schools had resumed classes on Sunday after closure for past few days due to strike called by Maoist-affiliated Institutional School Teachers Union (ISTU) over dismissal of teachers at St.Xavier’s School, Jawalakhel.
