BIRGUNJ, July 27: The federal government of India has directed all officers of government hospitals across the country to administer COVID-19 vaccines to Nepali citizens based on their identity cards. Following the announcement from the Indian government, Nepali citizens will now be able to receive COVID-19 vaccines at their local vaccination centers, a health worker of Raxaul informed Republica.
Nepali citizens will have to show their citizenship card, passport, or any official card to receive the vaccine. The vaccine will be administered to people above the age of 18.

According to Amrendra Kumar, an Indian journalist, rumors had surfaced of vaccinating Nepali citizens illegally, but they are now eligible to get vaccinated in India officially.
“This act has proved the unique relationship between Nepal and India,” Kumar said. Nepali citizens who are currently living in India for various reasons including education, employment, treatment, or travel purposes can now receive the COVID-19 vaccine from the vaccination centers near them. In addition, any Nepali citizen who is deprived of vaccines will have no issues in receiving the vaccine after coming to India.
The announcement came after Narendra Kumar, a senior official of Bihar State Health Committee and State Defense Official, issued a circular to the subordinate bodies in this regard.
The very first point of the circular states that COVID-19 vaccine should be administered based on age and identification card with a photo. Similarly, point 2 states that many Nepali citizens are living in India for employment. Point 3 has requested the officials concerned to administer vaccines to Nepali citizens, without any precondition.
