"I´m optimistic that they will reach an agreement," French new agency AFP quoted Robert Blake, the Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia, as saying in Washington on Wednesday.[break]
"I can´t say how quickly, but I do believe that differences have been narrowed and that some progress has been made," Blake said.
The parliament has failed 12 times to elect a successor of caretaker Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal who resigned June 30 under Maoist pressure to pave way for national consensus.
AFP reported that Blake hoped that Nepal´s politicians would be able to move on to issues such as drafting a constitution and integrating Maoist soldiers.
"We´d like to see a new government formed so that they can begin to focus on the most important issues," Blake said.
