KATHMANDU, Nov 7: US ambassador to Nepal Alaina B. Teplitz today has paid a courtesy call on CPN (UML) leader and former Prime Minister, Madhav Kumar Nepal, at the latter's residence at Koteshwar in the capital.

A press release issued by the party publicity department secretary Bishnu Rijal, states that in the meeting leader Nepal thanked US for its support to Nepal and hoped for further support from the US in the changed context after the promulgation of a new constitution.

In response of a query of Teplitz on issues of amending the constitution, leader Nepal clarified that they would not agree on amending the constitution without any logic and the grounds, adding that two articles of the constitution were already amended as per the demand of Tarai centric parties therefore constitution could not be amended in a short duration.

Leader Nepal ruled out the relevance of amending the constitution as the issues raised to that connection were not genuine and there was no example in the world on amending the constitution time and again on such issues so his party could not agree on it.

On the occasion, ambassador Teplitz assured that her country will continue the cooperation for economic development, political stability and good governance of Nepal.

Envoy Teplitz praised the achievements seen to garner the political stability after promulgation of the constitution.

She further expressed confidence that all parties would stand together on such issues. RSS
