UNSC team meets peace minister

KATHMANDU, Nov 22: A high-level delegation from the UN Security Council led by Claude Heller, who heads the Security Council Working Group on Children and Armed Conflict, called on Minister for Peace and Reconstruction Rakam Chemjong on Monday to inquire about the progress in rehabiliation of the minors discharged from the Maoist cantonments early this year and overall situation of the children affected by armed conflict.



According to Peace and Reconstruction Secretary Dhurba Prasad Sharma, who was present at the meeting, the delegation inquired about the situation of those discharged minors who were disqualified for integration by the UN  in 2007 and their reintegration in the society.



According to Joint Secretary Bishnu Prasad Nepal, the delegation expressed concern over impunity and its effect on children who were hit by the conflict.



The delegation arrived Kathmandu on Sunday upon request from the government.
