KATHMANDU, July 16: Expressing serious reservation over the Supreme Court’s verdict to reinstate parliament and issue a mandamus to appoint Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba as new Prime Minister, the CPN-UML-led by K P Oli has announced to launch ‘exposure' campaign across the country.
A Parliamentary Party meeting of the UML held at the parliament building in New Baneshwar on Friday afternoon made a decision to this effect. Talking to media persons after the meeting, UML Chief Whip Bishal Bhattarai said they decided to launch the ‘exposure campaign’ as the Supreme Court misinterpreted the Articles of the constitution to undermine people’s mandate.
Oli's threat to launch protest if verdict on house dissolution...
“The Supreme Court has made a mockery of people’s mandate by misinterpreting Articles and Clauses of the constitution. Contempt has been made against the party system,” he said. “Partyless system has been exercised. Our party has decided to launch an exposure campaign against the verdict of the Supreme Court among people.”
Arguing that the mandamus to appoint the prime minister was unique in the world, the UML PP meeting expressed serious reservation over the apex court’s verdict. “Nowhere in the world has a court appointed prime minister. We would have accepted the court’s verdict if it had only reinstated parliament. But the court has passed a verdict to support a leader of one political party,” Bhattarai further said.
