The Nepali Congress and CPN-UML have been insisting that the present political crisis be solved in the package comprising a deal on integration and management of the Maoist combatants, return of properties seized by the Maoists during insurgency, disbanding of the Maoist´s Young Communist League´s paramilitary structure and formation of national unity government.[break]
But the Maoists have been insisting on dissolution of the incumbent coalition and formation of a Maoist-headed national unity government beforehand to create an environment for implementation of such a package.
The SC meeting decided to call the party´s Central Committee (CC) meeting on May 15 and May 16 to take the final decision on current political issues and the party´s internal disputes.
“The CC meeting will take decision on various crucial issues ranging from integration and rehabilitation of the Maoist combatants, extension of the Constituent Assembly term, government formation, power sharing and the contents of the new constitution,” UML General Secretary Ishwar Pokharel told reporters after the meeting at party head office in Balkhu.
The SC meeting also discussed internal disputes that have surfaced after party´s Vice-Chairman Bamdev Gautam submitted a memorandum to party chairman Jhala Nath Khanal demanding resignation of Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal to pave the way for formation of a Maoist-led national unity government.
Gautam had sent a memorandum mentioning the names of 60 leaders without any signature to Khanal through email 10 days ago. “The memorandum and views expressed by him in connection with the row are against the party policy, decisions, system and the party´s interest. The party directs him to self-criticize for his mistakes," the statement issued by the party said.
The SC meeting also decided to direct him to firmly abide by the party´s policies and systems.
