Gautam had emailed the memorandum featuring names of 60 UML lawmakers to party chairman Jhala Nath Khanal, demanding that Prime Minister Madhav Nepal, who is also a senior UML leader, step down to pave way for formation of Maoist-led national unity government. A majority of those lawmakers had taken strong exception for including names in the memorandum without their knowledge.
“The CC has said his (Gautam´s) activities in connection with the memorandum were against the party´s statute, values and interest. Therefore, the meeting has again directed him to further clarify his move with self-criticism,” UML Spokesperson Pradip Gyawali told reporters after the meeting.
Earlier on Friday, the party´s Central Disciplinary Commission had warned Gautam of stern action if he failed to furnish convincing clarification within seven days.
Gautam has been arguing that he had to take such a step as the ruling party´s was adamant on not addressing the Maoist demands.
