KATHMANDU, Nov 22: CPN-UML candidate Krishna Gopal Shrestha has won the election to the member of the House of Representatives (HoR) from the Kathmandu electoral constituency-9.
The 64-year-old leader defeated his nearest competitor Tek Bahadur Pokhrel from the Rastriya Swatantra Party by 995 votes. He obtained 11,956 while Pokhrel secured 10,961 votes.

This is the fourth time Shrestha has been elected a member of the HoR. Shrestha, a permanent resident of Balkhu, Kathmandu metropolis-14, was born to Harimaya Shrestha and Harilal Shrestha. He has played a vital role in the democratic movements.
Starting his political career as a student union leader, Shrestha is now the CPN (UML) politburo member. The MA graduate in economics has already served as a minister on several occasions.
Similarly, CPN (Maoist Centre)’s Kalpana Dhamala finished third position with 6,400 votes. A total of 44,379 votes were cast during Sunday’s voting and the number of invalid votes stood at 1,862, said election officer Puja Khatri.
