KATHMANDU, April 7: The Madhav Kumar Nepal-led faction of the ruling Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML) has formed a parallel party committee in Sudurpaschim Province.
The party's parallel provincial committee was announced under the leadership of Bhim Rawal, according to party leaders.
Rawal, a multi-time cabinet minister, is one of the party's key leaders from Sudurpaschim Province.
The Rawal-led parallel committee comprises Dirgha Sodari (Kailali), Chakra Bahadur Malla (Doti), Tara Tamang (Kanchanpur), Mahadev Bhatta (Baitadi), Gagan Rawal (Bajura), Dil Bahadur Singh (Bajhang) and Sher Bahadur Kunwar (Accham). The faction has yet to designate a member from Darchula district.
The UML's Nepal-led faction's move to establish a parallel committee in Sudurpaschim comes amid a deepening rift within the party due to factional feud.
The Oli-led faction has taken a series of actions against the Madhav Kumar Nepal-led faction which was earlier taking side with the Dahal-led faction when the Nepal Communist Party existed until the Supreme Court's verdict to invalidate the NCP.
Despite strong warnings and threats from Chairperson KP Sharma Oli, the Madhav Kumar Nepal-led faction has continued its parallel activities in recent weeks. With the growing squabbling between the two factions, the ruling CPN-UML is on the verge of a split.
