TAPLEJUNG, Nov 24: CPN-UML candidate Til Kumar Menyangwo has been elected as a member of Provincial Assembly Constituency 1A of Taplejung. Menyangwo defeated Left-Democratic Alliance candidate Khem Bahadur Banem of CPN-Unified Socialist by 4,039 votes.
Out of a total of 25,676 votes cast, Menyangwo got 12,772 votes while Banem got 8,733 votes.
Among the two constituencies of the Provincial Assembly, Province 1(B), the candidate of the Left-democratic Alliance, Khagen Singh Hangam of Congress has won. He defeated UML candidate Gopal Topra.
In the House of Representatives, UML Secretary Yogesh Bhattarai has secured victory by defeating Khel Prasad Budha Chhetri, the candidate of the Left-democratic Alliance from the Maoist Center. Along with this, vote counting under the FPTP electoral system in Taplejung has been completed. Chief Electoral Officer and District Judge Nirmala Yongya said that the counting of proportional votes will start from 4 pm today.
