UML protest against EC's decision in Chitwan

CHITWAN, June 3: The main opposition CPN-UML of Chitwan has staged a protest program and organized torch procession on Saturday evening against the decision made by the Election Commission (EC) to go for re-election in Bharatpur-19.

CHITWAN, June 3: The main opposition CPN-UML of Chitwan has staged a protest program and organized torch procession on Saturday evening against the decision made by the Election Commission (EC) to go for re-election in Bharatpur-19.



The procession started from local Lions Chowk reached different parts of the city and concluded at Pulchowk. Student and youth cadres of the party participated during the event.


They chanted slogans against the EC and demanded to scrap the decision made by the EC on Saturday urging to resume the counting of the votes at earliest.


Other three parties including the CPN(ML), Rastriya Janmorcha and Naya Shakti Nepal have also issued a joint statement and rejected the decision made by the  EC terming the  decision as undemocratic and against the judiciary.

Earlier, the Election Commission (EC) had decided to hold re-election in ward 19 of Bharatpur Metropolis.


The meeting of the high officials of the EC, including all the commissioners and other officials on Saturday, decided to declare all the votes cast in the area invalid and to conduct the election again. 


The investigation was launched after halting the vote counting.


On Sunday, Election Commission had formed a three-member probe panel comprising Joint Attorney General Gita Prasad Timsina, Joint Secretary of the Minister of Home Affairs Mahesh Acharya and Additional Inspector General of Police Kedar Man Singh Bhandari to look into the  incident.
