Thapa, who has been an active member of the Communist Party of Nepal for nearly 30 years, left the party dissatisfied with the party's decision. Thapa had objected to the UML's decision to re-nominate Thamsara Pun as chairperson and Pragati Karki as deputy chairperson in Dhaualagiri Municipality on Monday, the second day of the Gandaki Province Committee's nomination registration.
A team of UML central members and district chairperson had reached Dhaulagiri from Beni, asking Thapa to reconsider his decision to leave the party. However, Thapa even refused to meet the team.
