KATHMANDU, March 21: CPN-UML´s politburo member Ram Chandra Jha has quit the party citing differences with party leadership over some crucial political issues such as the proposed federal model.

Sending a statement through fax to the party head office on Thursday morning, Jha announced that he is no longer with the CPN-UML with effect from the same day.[break]

He accused the party leadership of depriving genuine party members, including him, of any role in the party organization and promoting only those close to the leaders.

“I am compelled to take such an unpleasant decision as the practice of promoting those close to the leaders has been established in the party. There is no system of promoting members based on their performance, contribution and competence," he said in his letter sent to the party head office.

While there are unconfirmed reports that Jha is planning to join the UCPN (Maoist), he said in his statement that he is for giving continuity to communist movement in the days to come. Jha was elected from Dhanusha district in the 2008 Constituent Assembly (CA) election.
