Karki and his accomplice Brahmananda Udasin were arrested on August 30 while accepting Rs 100,000 as bribe from a youth promising him a police inspector job. [break]
The Special Court sought Rs 500,000 from Karki and Rs 400,000 from Udasin as bail amount after the completion of hearing on the case filed by Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Monday.
According to Karki´s lawyer Ganesh KC, both Karki and Udasin deposited aforesaid amount in cash as a bail at the Special Court and released in the evening.
Following his release from court on bail, Karki claimed that he was trapped into a conspiracy hatched by his political rivals.
The CIAA, in its charge sheet, had set Rs 405,000 as the amount to be claimed from Karki and Udasin, saying they took bribes of Rs 405,000 in total from a youth.
CIAA has demanded that Rs 405,000 should be recovered from Karki and Udasin. The commission has also sought four years and six months´ imprisonment for Karki and one year and six months for Udasin.
The parliament suspended Karki until the Special Court gives a final verdict on his case.
Speaker Subas Nembang informed the UML parliamentary party Tuesday about the decision to this effect, said Speaker´s personal assistant, Sudarshan Kuikel.
