UML fails to name ministers

KATHMANDU, June 8: Standing Committee meeting of Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist) on Monday failed to name the leaders from the party to be inducted into the cabinet led by the party´s senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal. [break]



The party decided to first finalize the portfolio sharing with other coalition partners before selecting the candidates for ministers from the party, said Shankar Pokharel.



The UML earlier sent only two leaders from the party – Bidya Bhandari as Defense and Surendra Pandey as Finance Minister. Other coalition partners – Nepali Congress, CPN (ML) and Rastriya Prajatantra Party – have also nominated ministers from the parties.



Nepal was elected prime minister on May 23 with support from 22 of the 24 political parties in the 601-member parliament.



A central committee meeting of the party is taking place in the afternoon.
