KATHMANDU, Feb 15: Former prime minister and chairman of CPN-UML, KP Sharma Oli has expressed grief over the demise of Dr Taranath Sharma. Chairman Oli wrote on his Twitter handle that he was saddened by the news of the death of a distinguished and well-known Nepali writer.

Chairman Oli writes, "I am saddened by the news of the demise of Dr Taranath Sharma, a distinguished writer, the founder of the Niyatra essay genre in the Nepali literature, and the leader of the radical movement in the Nepali language. Paying my heartfelt homage to the late writer Sharma, I express my deepest condolences to the bereaved family.”
Writer Taranath Sharma passed away at the age of 87 on Tuesday morning. Sharma is the author of travel collections of travelogs such as Belayet tira Baralinda and Patal Pravas, published more than 100 books in Nepali and English including language and grammar. He had won the Madan Puraskar in 2026 BS for his collection of essays Belayat tira Baralinda.
