KATHMANDU, March 19: Chairman of the ruling CPN-UML, KP Sharma Oli has said that a parliamentary probe committee cannot be formed to investigate the involvement of Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane in the misappropriation of cooperative deposits.

In his brief remarks to journalists outside the Federal Parliament Building in New Baneshwor on Tuesday afternoon, Oli said it is not possible to form a parliamentary committee to investigate the misappropriation of cooperative funds.

“For what purpose should we form a parliamentary committee? It is not possible,” said Chairman Oli.

He said that the Nepali Congress (NC) should not show immature behavior just because it is forced to stay in the opposition. He also said that they expect responsible behavior of the NC as an opposition party.

In Tuesday's meeting of the House of Representatives, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal responded to the questions of lawmakers. The NC said that Prime Minister Dahal's answer was not satisfactory in relation to the cooperative fraud.

The NC has demanded that a parliamentary committee be formed to investigate the misappropriation of cooperative deposits and loans after PM Dahal said that there was no need to investigate Home Minister Lamichhane.

But NC Chief Whip Ramesh Lekhak said there was enough evidence to investigate Lamichhane in the misappropriation of deposits of Suryodaya Saving and Credit Cooperative.
