The proposal that was prepared by the party secretariat and presented at the meeting by general secretary Ishwar Pokharel said the four-point deal should be scrapped as it incorporated some of the provisions detrimental to the country.[break]
CC member Yogesh Bhattarai said the meeting endorsed the proposal unanimously. "All the members were one on the party´s stance that the Maoist-Madhesi deal should be scrapped as it is against the national interest and against the spirit of concluding the twin tasks of constitution writing and peace process based on national consensus," Bhattarai told Republica.
According to him, the proposal has been okayed by agreeing to incorporate the feedbacks given by the CC members during the deliberations.
The UML has said the provision to withdraw the cases not only violates the spirit of the Comprehensive Peace Accord (CPA) but also makes a mockery of the rule of law and institutionalizes impunity.
Speaking at the meeting, the party´s standing committee member KP Sharma Oli said the present government was formed in a legitimate manner but it is based on a shaky ground.
"Though the government was formed constitutionally, we can´t expect much from the alliance because it is between the radical communists and the rightists forces," a CC member quoted Oli as saying.
According to the leader, Oli said the Maoists-Madhesi alliance is trying to move ahead by excluding the democratic forces like CPN-UML and Nepali Congress (NC), but we have to prove them wrong. The CC meet is scheduled to deliberate on other agenda-items starting Thursday.
