KATHMANDU, March 7: CPN-UML has requested the National Human Rights Commission to probe Saptari incident. Holding a press conference at party's central office on Tuesday, UML said that the Saptari incident should be probed soon.

UML has claimed that the incident was aimed at disrupting the local level election. Speaking at the press conference, UML General Secretary Ishwar Pokharel said that the government decision to recall the chief district officer and security chiefs from the district is suspicious.

He also claimed that the attack was made with an intention of killing UML leaders. He also argued that the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) should take the responsibility of the incident, claiming that the UML had maintained restraints. "It was deliberate attack targeting UML rally and leaders," said Pokharel.

Pokharel informed that the Mechi-Mahakali National Campaign, which was postponed following the Monday's incident in Saptari, will resume after three days but he added that the program schedule would be made public later.

Three individuals were killed while several others sustained injuries on Monday when police opened fire in Maleth, Saptari. The police had opened fire in Maleth, Saptari on Monday, claiming the fire was opened to preempt clashes between the cadres of the UDMF and CPN-UML.

The CPN-UML had organized a mass meeting in Maleth as part of its Mechi-Mahakali National Campaign while the UDMF cadres were trying to disrupt the UML's program.
