CHITWAN, May 16: By the time a total of 1375 votes have been counted, UML mayoral candidate Devi Gyawali is taking lead in Bharatpur Metropolitan City with 634 votes, compared to 500 votes secured by his closest contestant Maoist Center candidate and PM Dahal’s daughter Renu Dahal.
Dahal is behind Gyawali by 134 votes.However, UML and Maoist Center are moving ahead with the same speed at deputy mayoral level. Earlier, UML was taking lead at deputy mayoral level too.
Deputy mayoral candidate Dibya Sharma representing CPN-UML and his closest opponent Nepali Congress deputy mayoral candidate Parbati Shah have secured the same number of votes-552.
The local level elections held in Bharatpur Metropolitan City has been seen with great interest for two reasons.
First, Renu Dahal, a daughter of Prime Minister Dahal , is contesting the election for the mayoral position.
Second, Nepali Congress and CPN(Mapist Center) have forged an electoral alliance in this metropolitan city as in some other local levels.
