KATHMANDU, March 12: CPN-UML has agreed to give the vice-chairmanship of the National Assembly to the CPN (Unified Socialist).


According to high sources, during the discussions held this morning, UML agreed to give the vice-chairman position to the Unified Socialist keeping in mind the principle of balance of power. “Before the election of the chairman of the National Assembly, when there was a discussion about how to strengthen the current cooperation between the three main parties in power, CPN-UML, CPN (Maoist Center) and CPN (Unified Socialists), the chairman of the Unified Socialist asked for the post and the UML Chairman KP Oli agreed to it,” said the source.

Following discussions among the three leaders, a new memorandum of understanding was signed among the ruling alliance parties in New Baneshwor. With the aim of strengthening and making the reconstituted government led by Pushpa Kamal Dahal successful, a seven-point memorandum of understanding was signed on Tuesday. Among the signatories are CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli, Rastriya Swatantra Party Chairman Rabi Lamichhane, CPN (Unified Socialist) Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal and Janata Samajwadi Party Chairman Upendra Yadav.


They will support the candidate from the Maoist Center for the chairmanship of the National Assembly, engage in constructive dialogue with other parties to form a unified government, expedite the conclusion of the transitional justice bill, and address issues related to the peace process to ensure lasting peace in the country through consensus, alongside implementing federalism.


There was also an agreement among these parties to draft a common minimum program for the government participants to enhance governance at all levels by enacting the necessary laws. This agreement aims to guide the government's policies and programs to bolster national interest and democracy by tackling the country’s economic challenges.
